Apex Design started unconventionally. It started as a guy in his mid-twenties who wanted to learn how to build a racecar.

That guy is me — Kelly McDonald.

I moved from Colorado to the East Coast to learn how to build carbon fiber parts, and once I felt confident in my skills, I set out to build my own. But something more important happened out here: I grew a lot closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. My relationship with Him became far more fruitful, and through it I felt led toward making fabrication — every kind of it — more available and more accessible.

I met my wife after moving to Virginia. She’s the one who encouraged me to go to Scripture whenever I had questions about the truth of Jesus. The one thing I will never lose sight of is who runs this business. It isn’t me. It isn’t my wife. It’s Jesus. Everything belongs to Him.

So how does that connect to racecars and software?

I’ve raced in NASA Rocky Mountain, the Colorado Hill Climb Association, and the SCCA Appalachian Hillclimb Series. I’ve spent years around fabricators, and I keep hearing the same complaint: the software on the market doesn’t work the way a shop actually works.

My goal at Apex is to change that — to build the tools I wanted when I was younger and put them within reach. There’s a lot of fabrication talent out there that just isn’t visible yet.

What I’m trying to say is simple. I’ve been there. I’ve stood in a fabricator’s shoes. Now I want to make it easier for you.
